Sundays in Bed With… Finnikin of the Rock

Sundays in Bed With is a meme hosted by Kate of Midnight Book Girl that’s all about showing off what book you’re snuggled up with on Sunday morning each week!

Today I’m reading…

Finnikin of the RockFinnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta

I’ve been reading this book this week as part of an event called The Journey Home, hosted by Bookish Whimsy and A Novel Idea. Since I started book blogging, I’ve seen a lot of mention of this book series, and though I initially thought it wasn’t really for me, I eventually decided that I’d like to see what it’s all about.

I had a slow start, but I read seven chapters yesterday as part of Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon to catch up, and guys… I’m hooked. Once I was finally able to sit down and read for a decent amount of time, I just completely lost myself in the world the author created. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning reading this book.

I’ve generally always thought that high fantasy wasn’t for me, but really, it may just have been about finding the right book… and I’m thinking Finnikin of the Rock is the right book. I am so glad I signed up for this challenge.

I can’t wait to read the rest and share my review with you all as part of the Journey Home event. My post is scheduled for October 22. Keep an eye out!

What was the last book to change your mind about a genre you didn’t think you liked?

In reply to your comment: I feel kind of awful because a LOT of people have been missing from the blogosphere, and I never noticed until they mentioned it to me! >.< In my defense, though, I've been pretty caught up with school and life in general, so I haven't been able to notice all the tiny details. But it's good to have you back, Sam! I hope the world isn't being too hard, like it's been on many people. BLOGGING + LIFE = STRESS. Haha.

Anyway, yay for FINNIKIN! Admittedly, I haven't read it yet — though I've been telling everyone that I will soon. Just haven't found the time to get to it. Thank God the slow start only lasts for the first couple of chapters. I'll be able to handle that, so it's a huge relief that the book gets MUCH better. Looking forward to your review!

I wasn’t really expecting people to notice (my blog certainly isn’t big enough for that!)–I just wanted to offer an explanation for anyone who did! Blogging + life definitely does = stress. But I don’t want it to be that way, and I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things really soon!

I just finished reading Finnikin a few hours ago, and it was wonderful. I definitely do recommend it. :)
